Julia, good to see you, how much longer will your hubby be gone? I wish I knew...I haven't seen him since December. I would have answered your question sooner, but, it makes me sad to put that in writing. I'm thankful that he is working and able to provide for us...it's just hard... Garsy...hope that Brian had a great interview!

I wasn't thrilled with all the time that was spent preparing for those tests. I know it's really the best way to see what the kids are learning, but ... . Did any of you ever go over subjects with your kids during that time? I never did. Not really. Mostly because I don't think it necessary. My kids don't tend to stress about these sorts of tests much at all. I will review some reading comprehension stuff with Zoe - but we do that every week anyway. It's just something she's struggled with so it's something we review often. The one nice thing is that the teachers tend to lighten up the homework load the week of testing. I've never really been a fan of testing anyway. I'm of the mind that it's really not a good determination of student achievement or teacher ability. A teacher could have a bunch of students that test well, and a bunch that test horribly and if that number differs by one student the teacher could be labeled a failure or a success. Some kids simply don't test well. Depending upon the sort of test - my kids could either do really well or really poorly. But I don't have the answers either. There has got to be a better way to measure student achievement and teacher ability. Brian says the interview went fine. He's pretty much assured of a job! He goes in tomorrow again to shadow someone that is actually doing the job he'll be doing! Blessings, Garsy

according to Brian - we'll know for sure by Tuesday. Three days is just too long to wait! I even went out and purchased some spendy Edy's ice cream and have been saying tons of prayers! We had Ethan's bridging ceremony tonight. He is now a Boy Scout. I'm not sure if I'm ready to deal with this again. Ahh, and the gorilla thing. Both of my younger kids came home with new t-shirts from school Friday. And they have a gorilla on them, and this quote - "Success is like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you are tired, you quit when the gorilla is tired!" Robert Strauss. Apparently in this case the Gorilla is the test! So because of state testing - next week's schedule is all messed up specials wise. I'm going to have to e-mail the art teacher tomorrow and see what the schedule is this week. Now I'm watching the closing ceremonies. I really love that the Canadian organizers are willing to poke fun at themselves! I love the atmosphere of the closing ceremonies too! Always have. We had to get on Ty and Aryn for their grades again. I've done something wrong with these two. I thought I had taught them responsibility and to take pride in their work and actually hand it in. Oh and to take the time to study for tests. How do I get them to see that this is hurting them big time? I'm meeting with Ty's counselor on Tuesday. Hopefully Brian can make it too. Blessings, Garsy.

Garsy, are they too busy doing extra things? We got on dd about here grades and told her she would have to drop tech if she dropped below an A. She's very capable of getting straight A's, but tends to be lazy. Is Ty in classes that are too hard for him? Ds got put in advanced Biology because his reading scores were good, but we said, "No" because he's Science isn't his strong suite and unless he really liked it, we knew we'd have to push him. He's done just fine in freshman level Bio.

He's done just fine in freshman level Bio. As far as Aryn goes - I don't think so. She isn't involved in any church youth groups and her only extra is her writers group that meets every two weeks. Aryn is however very lazy. She seems not to care. During the fall - when Ty's grades are actually better, he is busier than he is now. Right now Ty isn't doing all that much. He attends church with his girlfriend and her family on Saturday nights and she comes her on Fridays after school. He does have a serious problem with spending WAY to much time on the phone. Ty's worst two classes are his AP US history and Honors English classes which were supposed to be a block class - ONE two period class with two teachers - and English teacher and a history teacher. But due to numbers they were unable to do the class that way this year and had we known before school started we would have pulled him from the history. He struggles with history anyway but he responds well when literature he is reading coincides with what they are studying in history. Well things didn't work out that way for some reason. He's doing better - just struggling to bring them up from a rough start this quarter. We'll get through somehow. Blessings, Garsy
