Welcome, Sandy!

My three have always been public school students. Getting involved and communicating regularly with teachers is always a great way to know how well your child is doing.

Welcome Sandy, let us know how it goes!

The kids had today off, so we scheduled N to get his braces off today. Hubby dropped him off on the way to work (same town), going in a little late for work. He dropped him off early for his appt. We're 30 minutes away. I let the girls sleep in, and then they didn't want to get up. By the time we got there N had been waiting 30-45 minutes, because he got called back at 8:30 instead of 9 when his appt was. Thankfully he had a book. And since he'd been waiting a while his retainers were ready, we just had to wait a little bit for him to be called back again for those to be fitted. So I think it worked out OK. Otherwise we'd have had to go back later in the day, so that was fine with me.

I love JC Penney clearance sales! Some stuff had been marked down to mostly 97 cents and $2.97! So I got R some pants and shirts for mostly 97 cents. She is so picky about what she'll wear, especially her pants. I've been letting her wear the few things she didn't mind wearing, but it wasn't a great selection. She did finally decide (in December) she'd wear stretchy knit pants, previously she said they were too tight. She has nice things, but doesn't want to wear them for various reasons. Anyway, now she has a few more things to wear. They might even still fit next fall; we shall see.

And I found N some 18slim jeans for 2.97! Those are none too big though, so I think I'll be trying to figure out what men's size jeans he wears before long. I hope I can find some that don't fall off of him.

When BigBee went into mens sizes he was getting impossibly big sizes. He was measuring at about a 29 waist but insisted he needed to be wearing 33's or larger... We finally had to have a daddy-manly-heart to heart and there was a problem with the cut around his front that required him to be trying on the same size in different styles. He didn't know... He'd put something on, it would be tight, so he'd go bigger. He'd pick by color, or pockets and then try to get a pair that were comfortable. He knows better now. Just thought I'd warn you because I didn't understand the problem.

I had a long post yesterday and it was eaten. Good thing. I was bellyaching about my co-workers baby-ing their adult / college children. I realized why it bugs me. When I was 20, I was taking care of my FIL who passed from cancer (20 years ago). I was married, ran a household, you get the idea. I told PBee my mom wasn't making my dr's appt or scheduling my college classes. She discussed it with me "why are you picking this class? Did you need to choose between two? Is there something you wish you could put in that time slot instead?" There is a mom at work whose kid dropped classes because they were too hard and mom said "I knew I should have gone with her to schedule" I used to say 'other peoples children' but I guess I need to add 'and their grandchildren'.

We have a delay. I was driving last night and couldn't find the lines on the road - very disconcerting. I also did a nice little slide making a turn pulling into the mall. I said 'now do you understand why I am hurrying in the store and getting annoyed that when I can't find you?" and they both said yes, and practically RAN in Walmart. HA.

Our students went to school last Monday and had the rest of the week off due to the weather. They were off yesterday because it was a holiday. Today they are on a 2 hour delay and even with that the busses are supposed to be running late.

Wow, that is alot of missed school. Are they going to have to make their days up? We have to make days up after 2.

My daughter made it into the volleyball tournament. The problem is that we were going to surprise the kids with a trip to Minnesota for a few days and the tournament falls in those days. I don't know if I should tell her and give her a choice, or just not go to Minnesota. My parents are coming to stay with the dog so she could stay home and we could go, or I could keep both girls home with them and take the boys. My exchange student would like to go there, and I could have my days to myself because the only reason we were going to go is that my husband has three days of training just two blocks from the mall.

I can never seem to hit those sales right.

Not yet. It's just blowing around. It's been snowing all day and hasn't amounted to much more than an inch or so. But it's drifting because of the wind. It was pretty slick out this morning tho.

Yes!! I'll watch anything, but I LOVE downhill skiing and moguls. And short track speed skating and hockey, and snowboarding and figure skating, and . . . . I just like it all!

I volunteered the day at school today. I'm doing a class for fine arts day and in general helping out wherever needed. Brian is coming on Thursday to help 5th graders with their Astronomy books.

Next week is CRAZY busy for us!!!

Blessings,

Garsy

I think of y'all when I see our weather coming it...... then I turn to the west and blow a raspberry! lol! Just kidding, I like the t-storms y'all send our way in the summer. We aren't snowed in. We were supposed to get about 1/2" snow on Sunday night. It turned out to be closer to 2". In Podunkville, IN we don't have a lot of money to spend on the roads, so they don't do a good job of plowing them, etc.

Someone posted on facebook today that we only have "31 more days and a wake-up" until spring. That's only about a month, but it seems like forever!

For some reason, I haven't been watching this year.

They were supposed to get out May 21. Now they are getting out June 2. That stinks when they start school in the middle of August.

How are they at keeping the roads plowed where you are?

We live just off a little county road that ALWAYS suffers when the wind blows. We really don't have any ditches in one area and fields on both sides and it ALWAYS drifts bad there!

In our little town our street is pretty much the last to be plowed when we get major snows, but this year we lucked out and one of our neighbors installed a plow on the front of his truck and he plows the entire street since he lives at the end of the dead end! It's quite nice really! I suppose we should treat him to some of his favorite girl scout cookies!!

IF we get anymore cancellations we will be going past June 10th! Then we start up again August 16th! That's just 9 weeks! I remember starting after Labor day and being out before Memorial Day! Now we barely get a summer at all!

Blessings,

Garsy

I'm sorry some of you are getting short summers. That stinks.

Garsy, I don't hit the really good sales very often. We live 30 miles from that kind of shopping, so I can't just be going to check too often.

MBee, thanks for the heads up, I don't think I'd understand the problem either! Hopefully I won't have to buy many, if any, jeans for him until next fall when it is getting cold again. And hopefully he has a growth spurt right before that and not right after!!!

Roberta your a stinker.

Garsy, I think if you hit the sales racks now u should find some summer stuff reduced. I seem to remember going shoping around this time a few years ago.

Ds loved his first day of gymnastics and I'm happy. We had him in it when he was little, but at the time our park district didn't have much for the boys. I could have search for a class for him, but we had other things we were busy with.

Is everyone healthy? dd stayed home yesterday, but went in today. I know sore throats and strep are going around here.

We got our 3-5" of snow Friday night/Saturday morning. It's rather sad to make a 2-foot snowman and the ground around him is all mud and grass and no snow left. But the kids had a snowball fight, we rode the four-wheeler in the snow-covered field, and next day we had hardly any snow left to enjoy. Then Monday came and they had to go back to school.

I'm an Olympi-holic. I enjoy it all, even those sports that I wouldn't normally watch, just because its the Olympics. Growing up, we always watched the Olympics. As kids we were allowed to stay up late those two weeks. My girls and hubby aren't that into the Olympics, but they watch to humor me. My son is in his dorm room enjoying cable and Olympics all afternoon (except for class time, of course). We use the old antenna, so we get NBC's basic coverage.

S has a sore throat and cough, but no fever. K and I still have some lingering sinus issues. There's some nasty stomach bug going around the schools, but so far we've all been fortunate not to get it.

Another 2 hour delay.

The district to the south of us canceled. My little guys were asked TWICE before the bus came if they went to school in that district. I still find it amusing that the vast majority of folks, even those with kids that don't realize that the kids in this town don't all attend the same schools.

Ethan is trying out tonight for the 5th grade play today after school. They are doing The Jungle Book and he wants the part of Baloo.

Zoe is also trying out for a part in the 3rd/4th grade musical. She wants to be a pirate.

Ty has a meeting during his study hall with his history teacher who just happens to have a free period at the same time. Hopefully he can get some answers and some help!

Aryn has been writing a LOT of poetry lately and REALLY good stuff! I'm amazed at her talent!

Blessings,

Garsy

We actually got out of school this past Friday. That NEVER happens here. They decided on Thursday afternoon, and I was waiting outside for my chorus kids to get picked up. A student came out and said school was cancelled. I didn't believe her! It sounded too good to be true

Monday was a holiday, so we had a 4 day weekend. It was great! We have to make it up in April. We had our Black History Month program this morning, and all the songs we sange were hymns and spirituals. I got lots of compliments. Take THAT, separation of church and state!

Well, MN is out, but now I have already arranged for my parents to come and watch my dog for me.
Hubby wants us to stay home. He said that since he has to work. He said he would rather us go a different time. I just thought that since his company is paying for transportation even if he drives, I could get my kids to the mall and we could all go together next year with our new exchange student. Oh well, Now I get to spend three days alone with my kids AND parents.

We have a lot of hymns sang in our choir concerts too. BTW- congrats on getting quoted in Board and Nails again.

The program sounds great, Heremains!

Tracy, I'm sorry the Minnesota trip didn't work out.

N is now sick. I know he doesn't want to miss school. He has a fever and a sore throat; I hope it is not strep.

R has pajama day tomorrow; a class reward for something. She is excited; it is so fun to see their joy in the little things!

gosh! You all have had lots of cancellations lol. We've had...2 I think this year? That's none for us. But then, we've had no where near normal snowfall. (I live in NNY)

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Next week is the big day. She's excited. I'm nervous. Most of my feelings are rooted in pride and fear. Lame.

Fear and pride are both normal when you send your child off to their first day of school, and I know she has had school experience, but it is different when you have to put them into the hands of someone else. You are afraid of almost everything that can happen from other kids being mean to broken bones on the playground. And you feel a sense of pride because you know child, the one YOU raised is going to go to school and make an impression. She is a product of you and now you get to show her off.

We have become so used to having 2 hour delays or cancellations that I plain ole forgot to set my alarm last night. I had to give DD a ride to school but at least she was only about 15 minutes late. I noticed a few other kids being dropped off who normally ride the bus.
