I am not trying to win the Honey Dew award here, but the biggest turn off for me is that they are not my beloved wife of 29 years. We have been together through thick and thin, through great suffering because I was not at this place earlier on in life... we've seen each other at our best and our worst. And we are still together and madly in love. Other women may snatch my attention for a quick glance (and I am still trying to work on that... so that no one gets my attention in that way at all but my gorgeous woman...) but I realize what is so "fetching" about the human form is (as with all people) a facade... grooming (which gets increasingly difficult with each passing year) hair cutting or placement, make up (war paint / clown paint depending on the individual) revealing clothing bearing in mind the limitations of body type and best presentation... in other words what the multi billion dollar cosmetic / cosmetology world thrives on... And when it's all washed and stripped away and maybe they / we are under the weather showing lines of age and wear and tear... maybe having vomiting spells or bouts with diarrhea... who do ya love then? In America and everywhere we've exported it to in the world, we've sold our souls for the facade (both male and female). And look at the devastation in its wake.. the broken homes and affairs of adultery and the cheapen of both ogler and the object of ogling. Devolving and devaluing to the least common denominator. Yes it is natural... for the flesh... but we who are seeking the spiritual over the worldly... are we not to overcome and endure over the flesh?

Some of us are blessed by God despite our ignorance and foolishness. I for one have found not only my perfect mate but and absolute gem (though I was often unawares). What one must look for in a mate goes far deeper than the superficial facades we all project and trowel onto our bodies... and we must not settle for those whom we can live with... but rather humbly seek and pray for God to graciously grant us the one we cannot live without.

At the top of my list is obesity. Second would be if she is measurably taller than I am; if I have to look up at her. (I'm just a shade over 6') Beyond that I can tolerate almost anything else. As far as character flaws: I cannot tolerate noisy eaters, picking arguments for the sake of arguing, emotional instability, shallowness.

Just out of curiosity, how is being a noisy eater a character flaw?

ORIGINAL: InNeedOfAFreshStart Bad Hygiene and Gross Teeth. Reminds me of the time that my brother and I went to this beach party in Trinidad several years ago. There was this one young lady there who was very nicely shaped and looked really nice. However, the darkenss of the night hid some horrific details. The next morning, at church (how about that), we saw her again but this time the experince was not as pleasant. I understand that not everyone can have the body or good looks of (insert your nominee here____________), but is it really too much to ask for someone that has a decent set of teeth? Man, my borhter and I looked at each other like "what in the world were we thinking last night"!!! quote:

This is something you don't see right off the bat and isn't exactly physical, but the inability to express an opinion about anything.

Physically only... - overweight. Hey, we all put on weight as we hit our 30s and beyond. But if you're very overweight, it shows to me that you do not prioritize your health, as you have a history of poor choices when it comes to eating. And it also sends a message about sloppiness and slovenliness. I eat healthy and exercise regularly, so for me, this is a big deal. - extreme acne. - scarred faces due to acne (not a few scars here and there as I have them too... but heavy scarring) - bad teeth - facial hair (I'm not saying this in sarcasm. I understand some women have a bit of facial hair - but it can be removed) - bad breath

Mental: Bad behavior (mean the same as attitude). Physical: Obesity (unless it's a viable medical issue). Hygenic: Body odor (unless they've been working out); food stuck between teeth (unless they just ate a sandwich).

Interesting how you pick ONE passage addressing submission as a husband and wife to each other to make an invalid point about beauty. One thing that irritates me more than anything about Christianity is picking ONE passage to make a point, while excluding the whole context of the chapter. Look at the song of Salomon... a love Ballard. Physical attraction is a MUST between mates, else the marriage will fail and children will end up in a broken home. God wired us that way, and it is not a sin to feel attraction.... or repulsion. As our FIL used to say, there are 31 flavors at Baskin Robbins because not everyone likes chocolate or vanilla.

I Peter 3:3-5 is addressed to women. If physical characteristic of women are the only thing men search for, then they are idols, and is sin. To not enjoy certain features of someone is not sin. By the nature of that, there will be things that a man enjoys. Christians have the tendency to hedge others with their own rules because of the fears of their own failures. Women are beautiful. God makes them that way. I have certain preferences, but a great character & personality will always beat physical beauty. That does not mean I cannot have preferences of physical characteristics which I do not like or do like...

Smoking, cursing, and drinking are probably THE most unattractive qualities a girl can ever have. Obesity, bad sense of humor, and being TOO dramatic are big ones as well.
