Ok military wives....quick question for you.... It seems there is a very good chance that DH will be going back in to active duty with the Army after his deployment to Iraq. That means a move for the family. I know the military will pay for the relocation, but do they help at all with things like: *selling our current home *finding new housing *can you bring pets onto base (base housing) We have 2 cats and 1 dog. The dog is a lab/german shepherd mix. We would love to adopt another German Shepherd, but not sure how that could hurt us finding housing. That breed normally is not allowed in every day apartment complexes and such.

Selling: no. However, should you choose not to sell (or are unable to sell) they can help you find a local management company that will rent your home out for you. Finding new housing: yes. What molly said. Pets: some posts do have breed restrictions for on post housing. If you live off post, it's up to the individual landlord. If you end up going overseas, it gets sticky, as there are quarantines and such you will have to deal with.

We got rid of all of our pets because they would have to be quarantined before they could live with us in HI. I think the quarantine was to be for 90 days. We got a Boxer while we were there. When my dad left the Navy and we moved to CA, we took our Boxer with us and she didn't have to be quarantined at all in CA. If I'm not mistaken, that was because back then HI had very few - if any - cases of rabies and they wanted to make sure the pets were not rabid. Of course, that was 35 years ago and there may have been one or two changes since then.

HI still quarantines but you can get some exceptions for guide/aid dogs and by now they may take the pet passport thingy. I can't remember. Europe is getting better and better about pets and using the Pet Passport thing is AWESOME.

Ok, call me selfish....but I'm REALLY getting tired of people giving Ray so much pity about being gone and away from Derrek for a year. I just wanna say....THIS WON'T BE A PICNIC FOR ME EITHER! I get some "poor sharon....poor poor sharon......all alone with a baby while her poor husband is so far away and in a war zone. So how's the weather?" UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok....that felt good. Does not make the situation better....but there really isn't anything that will.

The more I get into this, the more I realize that it really is just not something people can fully understand unles they are there or have been there. And it is a lifestyle of constant adjustments. Not just preparing for the deployment or the time apart, then the actual time apart, and there there is just as big of an adjustment when he/she comes home. While, in the back of your mind, just waiting for the news that your soldier is going to leave again.

Just got home from a Yellow Ribbon Pre-Mob Briefing. Lots of good info but boy is my brain fried! Derrek is gonna be 7ish months when Ray leaves. He will probably be three months short of 2 years when he gets home. A lot of the kids stuff that is offered are for school aged kids. Any suggestions on stuff that may be of use to him at his age while Ray is deployed? Oh, and Derrek still fit in his bouncer this morning. He took a short nap when we got home, and I put him in his bouncer. He does not fit it anymore. Sheesh! Oh yeah, and last night his size 1-2 diapers fit. Today? Not so much. I suppose I'll donate the remaining diapers to the local food pantry. They take toiletries and such too.

Sharon, Ray could read books onto tape for Derek to listen to. If you have the books Derek can look along with listening to the tapes. You could use library books and make color copies if the books are out of print. Have a variety of books some for soon and some for later. Have a picture of Ray that you can put in a plastic frame and put near the crib. Peace, Anne

I did the unthinkable today....I cried in front of Derrek. It looked like his little heart was breaking. Which of course made me cry more. Than that little bugger tried to make me laugh I think. Anyway.....tomorrow morning we say our goodbyes. Then, baby permitting, I plan to come home and sleep.

Really, the separation between Ray and Derrek upsets me more than the separation between us. Watching all those kids say goodbye to their parents today just broke my heart. Watching Ray weep over Derrek broke whatever was left. I feel like I have been hit with a lead pipe. I suppose I may be dehydrated from all the crying. I'm gonna go drink some water and try to sleep. I hope we can make church tomorrow but I'm not going to push it if I wake up feeling the same.
