Inspired by the peanut butter thread...

What are your favorite brands of jams, jellies, preserves, and fruit spreads?

Which flavors?

Do you make your own? (Got a recipe?)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll start.
Favorite brand is Smuckers, since they offer so many flavors and textures. I strawberry jam, w/ or w/out seeds.
I also really like Dickinson's, especially Lemon Curd, Lime Curd, Apple Butter, and Pumpkin Butter.
You sure caught my eye with this tread because I made the most wonderful orange marmalade last evening and the evening before using fresh fruit Friend Hubby brought home from Florida. Ohhh, is it good.
I do make several jams all with Pomona's Universal Pectin. It jels on calcium rather than sugar so you are free to sweeten the batch just as much or as little as you like and using whatever sweetener you like. I've been using it around 10 years.
I prefer jams to jellies because you get the nutritional benefit of the whole fruit. I make a good bit of spiced pear jam and red plum jams because I have the fruit trees. Also made concord grape jam when we picked grapes in Western New York. I have yet to come up with a really wonderful strawberry jam that is really flavorful. Until this week the only one I bought was Smuckers Low Sugar Orange Marmalade.
Ohhh, I know the freezer jams are sooo good but I just don't have the space.
Homemade strawberry is my favorite. To be eaten with fresh-baked bread hot out of the oven, of course.
I'm not much of a jam or jelly person otherwise. The only other spread I really like is apple butter.
I'm better at making apple butter than at making jam, too. Just spice it up and let it cook in the crockpot for many hours.
Well I make strawberry, peach, orange, blueberry, grape, and the most favorite Copper Kettle Apple butter---I have about 40 cases of jam and jelly in the basement---we give it as gifts and we do sell it--The Apple butter is everyone favotite The Copper kettle applebutter is a method rather then a recipe--we make 35 gallons at a time
I discovered in a restaurant once that apple cinnamon tastes really good on dark rye toast. Go figure.
My mother makes THE BEST freezer strawberry jam -- she gets her berries from a local grower, and I think the variety is Early Glow. She uses the Sure Gel in the pink package, follows the directions, but keeps half of the quantity just about whole and mushes the rest.
Two of my aunts and I make home-made apricot-pineapple jam. That combination can be an acquired taste, but good on toast!
The summer before last I had several bags of sliced pears in the freezer that we had picked from a neighbor's tree, along with some frozen strawberries and blueberries, then two hurricanes parked over AR and left us without power for several days. To keep from losing all the fruit, I made strawberry/pear jam and blueberry/pear jam. Both of them turned out very good, in fact my mom bought me a bunch of strawberries last year so I could make some more.
I also made several jars of peach preserves (my favorite) and a few jars of peach/mandarin orange because I was short on peaches. It tastes good too, the oranges give it the slightest tart kick.
Peach jam and strawberry jam are probably my two top faves, but I really love all varieties of jam and jelly. Oh and I can't forget blackberry! Mmmmmmm, blackberry.
I'm thinking biscuits are in order for breakfast tomorrow.
Oops, I just saw this. I'll be glad share my recipe when I get back to Minnesota where it is on my home computer. The Temple oranges made the best batch. I also finished up the citrus before leaving town and made a batch with grapefruit, a couple kinds of oranges and the rest of the lemons. It was very good but not quite up to the Temple batch.
