Not sure if this is the right board, but I will start here ;) In any situation in life, when you hit a stumbling block how do you know if it is God closing that door or if Satan is just trying to stand in your way? Is knowing the difference part of Christian maturity, and something that one develops?

Hi! Both. Christian maturity is something you develop. You learn as you go and you get more mature as you go. Satan is not going to keep you from what God has for you. He answers to God. Even the obstacles he places in your path have to be okayed by God. So its not so much an "either/or" situation - either God closed the door or Satan closed it to stand in your way- since Satan doesn't have the authority to determine your life's path. Instead it's more about where God wants you and what Satan's doing to keep you from getting where God wants you. Only God closes the door but Satan influences your thoughts and feelings about that closed door. The best way to know what is going on, then, is to ask God. He will give you peace about the closed the door and he will open another one. If, however, your feel weighted, oppressed (anxious, guilty, anything that is not in line with how God wants you to think and feel) then you can be sure that it's Satan. When the closed door is leading you away from God not driving you to him then you know Satan is trying to attack you. Keep in mind that we do suffer hurts and disappointments but God will address those if you let him. You have to trust that he's in control of your life and will open the right door at the right time. When you do that then it doesn't matter how many are closed and it doesn't matter what Satan does because you're waiting for God. :) I hope that helped at least a little. Thanks. Radar Here

It doesn't matter who closed the door. If you are a Christian being led by Christ, and the door is open, go through it. Absolutely, if we believe in Christ, we don't have to worry about anything about the devils. Devils just want us to loose our faith in Christ just to prove the Almighty that we His children no longer trust Him. Keep your faith going and there will not be a single door that won't open up with the name of Christ.

Christ sets at the right hand of God as your high priest to intercede on your behalf if you belong to Him. Luke 22:31-32 (KJV) 31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. You will be tempted but God will not forsake you. In Messiah, Bob

God never actually closes any doors and Satan can't. Sometimes a person will close their own door and lock it from the inside - that's called "hardness of Heart" and "stiff-neckedness" - and God will seal the door saying, "THey have the right to make their own decision."

In any situation in life, when you hit a stumbling block how do you know if it is God closing that door or if Satan is just trying to stand in your way? That's something a friend and I have talked about a lot, especially regarding a particular ministry we are part of. I feel that if I am sincerely praying for God's will and asking him to open and close the door he sees fit, then He is going to be faithful to do that for us. I think our job is to be in continual prayer(asking for God's will, not our own), and move in the direction we seem to feel is best. Many times, we have hit a block in an area we feel strongly is the way to go, so we keep forging ahead trying to make it work, all the while praying for God to intervene and either open that door, or show us another way. Often, we do find it has been the enemy trying to muck things up and diligence and prayer have broken through the stronghold. Other times, nothing we do can open that door, so we move to another plan, and most often find that was what God had in mind all along. Either way, we are at peace because we bathe these choices in prayer and feel whatever the outcome, God has been at work because we been open to hearing from Him and asked for His will to be done, not ours.
